The arrival. Sci fi winter landscape painting by sygardner The arrival. Sci fi winter landscape painting by sygardner
I finally upgraded from a wacom bamboo to an intuos 4, and this is my first painting with my new tablet. I used the bamboo for around 5-6 months, coming before that from traditional drawing and painting, etc. I just wanted to get the feel for a tablet with the bamboo, and it served me well but I felt it was time to upgrade, and I am so glad I have got an intuos now because I really can feel the difference. This was all painted from scratch in black and white using basic photoshop brushes. It took me around 6 hours to complete. There is snow coming in from the east, and mountains and rocks scattered around in the distance, with some rough water in the foreground. A couple of spaceships can be seen in the distance approaching the main city. Thank you very much for looking and your comments would be great, thanks again :)

Incedible and astounding atmosphere.
Between Sci-Fi and fairy tale style!
We could imagine a remote future or a remote past in an other world.
Really impressive!
Greetings from Paris!

Awesome piece. I like the crisp feel to the waves. The snow adds an extra level of depth to the atmosphere.

The intuos 4 is awesome too, I upgraded from a Bamboo about six months ago and you really can tell the difference. Anyway, six hours is pretty impressive. Good work!

This is incredible, the details, the light, the way the waves appear to be in motion, it's like taking a photo of the scene you drew

It really gives you feel of what it would be like to stand there in such an atmosphere of light and shadow happenings

It's totally amazing!!

A question: in which an intuos is better than a bamboo? I ask because I'm thinking to upgrade my tablet too...

Thank you very much :) Here is the same reply I gave to someone else yesterday when they asked the same question: The main thing I have noticed is of course the doubled pressure sensitivity, which makes it feel pretty much just like drawing or painting in real life traditionally, which is where I started out, so it feels totally natural now almost. Also I had the bamboo small, and now I have the intuos 4 medium, and of course it means I have a bigger surface to draw on which is more relevant to my screen and the size I'd like to work at

Great landscape. I was just wondering, what benefits are you getting from an upgraded tablet? I'm still a novice Wacom Bamboo user but I'm just wondering what I might get in the future.

Congrats on the new Wacom! It's worth it, isn't it? I love the landscape. You succeeded to create an atmosphere - which is very important. I'd suggest you to use more reference for the nature things like rocks, waves, etc.

Thank you :) And yes this one was done just off the top off my head, to create more of an alien type world, but yeah I am definitely going to reference on some of my other paintings for rocks, etc, to really practice getting them right for more natural type rock paintings :)

It's great to let your imagination flow - I think it requires some practicing too from each artist. I hate when some artists neglect it as something less necessary. But for more elaborate works it's better to use both your head and references too - I'd call it a research :)
